Celebrate the love this St. Valentine's Day with a couples portrait

A portrait session for just the two of you is a really romantic, fun thing to do and it makes the perfect St Valentine’s Day gift. We did it to celebrate our silver wedding and it was great fun. Our favourite photograph, in black and white, hangs above the fireplace in our lounge and we have a couple of smaller ones too. It may seem that having photographs of ourselves is a bit self indulgent but I often look at them think, gosh is that really us? But it is. And having a romantic reminder of just us is a really important treasure. And it’s one that’s a permanent reminder of our love for each other.
You can buy a gift certificate for St. Valentine’s Day online using the link below. We’ll post you a gift voucher in a presentation box. The details are at the bottom of the page. If you’d like more information or to chat about a session call us on 01925 471091

Lucie & Adie's prewedding shoot at The Ashton Memorial, Lancaster

It’s not often that the chance to photograph a wedding for your own family comes up, so when Lucie & Adie said they were getting married I wanted to photograph their wedding. Their wedding ceremony will be at the Ashton Memorial in Lancaster which has to be the most beautiful place for a wedding ceremony in the North of England.

Back in April we went for a look around and a practice shoot at the Memorial and in the gardens. Here’s a small selection from the session.

Nikki & David’s Nunsmere Hall pre-wedding shoot

I met Nikki & David in the spring and they asked me to do their wedding photography as they’d seen my wedding photographs from a previous Nunsmere Hall wedding.

We met up at Nunsmere at the beginning of September and explored the grounds looking at photo opportunities and doing a pre wedding shoot as we went. Although the weather wasn’t great, it ideal for photography as you can see.

Lauren & Dominic's pre-wedding shoot in Manchester

A few weeks before Lauren & Dom’s winter wedding we went to Castlefield in Manchester to do a pre-wedding shoot. Although I’d photographed them before with their son Jack, I hadn’t photographed them as a couple which is quite different. The sun shone and it was a lovely trip out. We were able to talk about our ideas for the wedding and to get to know more about the details for the big day.

Lauren & Dom’s wedding blog can be seen here.

Natalie & Paul’s pre-wedding shoot

A few weeks before Natalie and Paul’s wedding we all went to Nunsmere Hall in Cheshire, where they’d decided to have their wedding in July 2011. I knew Natalie didn’t really like being photographed and I wanted to make sure that we’d had a chance to have a practice session before the wedding as it would make so much difference to the wedding photographs.

I hadn’t photographed at Nunsmere before so it gave me chance to explore and find places to take a few statement images, and meet the wedding team at the hotel.

We had a fabulous couple of hours and tried a few ideas that we then used on the day. We also produced a Queensberry signature book for guests to sign on the day.

Dom & Louise's pre-wedding shoot

At the beginning of April last year, a few weeks before Louise and Dom’s wedding we went to Slaidburn in North Lancashire for a morning out to get to know them better and to do a pre-wedding shoot. Pre-wedding portrait sessions are really important and a great way for a bride and groom to experience being photographed before their big day. In my experience, where we do a pre-wedding shoot we get better photographs at the wedding.

Here’s why. If the bride or groom are a bit camera shy, or simply hate being photographed the pre-wedding shoot gives them chance to practice being photographed. As well as giving the photographer a chance to see how the bride and groom will react in front of the camera, it also gives everyone time to get to know each other better in a really relaxed session and takes off a huge amount of pressure on the wedding day itself.

The pre-wedding shoot also gives us a selection of images to use. For framed signature boards, guest signature books, thank cards, bespoke wedding invitations, and even to open the wedding album itself, the images from the pre-wedding shoot gives us so many opportunities.

Here’s a selection of pictures from the day.

Angie and Danny's pre-wedding shoot

Angie owns and runs the fabulous and very successful Puure Bridal Boutique in Lymm and is a great advocate of our work. We were only too pleased to cover Angie and Danny’s wedding day. These images are from the pre-wedding shoot.  We went for a lovely walk around Lymm dam taking lots of beautiful romantic pictures of them both. It’s so important to do the pre wedding shoot in either the couple’s home town or actually coincide it with a meeting at the wedding venue, so the images are really personal to the bride and groom.

Sean & Adele's pre-wedding shoot

When I took my first steps into portrait photography, long before I even thought about setting up a portrait and wedding photography business, Adele and Sean, and their son Aaron were the first family I photographed. I did my first baby shoot with Aaron. We got to know Adele and Sean quite well and they were always interested in how our photography was developing. So when I set up Andrew Collier Photography, and needed stock for my portfolio, Adele, Sean and Aaron helped us again and again, and they featured in all my early portfolios, as a family and as individuals. Over the last couple of years they’ve become great friends of ours and Adele has modelled for me several times, especially when I wanted to try out something new, or when I needed more shots for my portfolio.

I always joked that if they got married, I would do the wedding and when they set the date, their wedding was my first booking. Fortunately it was two years away and I have done several weddings since then.

Today is the big day for Adele and Sean. It’s a big day for me too because they are such a special part of our business. Back in June we all went off to Castlefield in Manchester for a quick prewedding shoot. It was a typical June afternoon, overcast, grey and humid, but we got some terrific shots for their guestbook.

Here’s a small selection from the day. We’ll be posting a selection from the wedding shortly.
