James at Two – a very cute toddler

Toddler portraits are really cute and this session of James as a toddler is no exception. I’ve got to know James and his mum and dad very well over the last three years and it all started when I photographed Colin and his daughters in the summer of 2011.

Soon after, I returned to photograph Colin and Nikki (and James – he was a bump then) in what has become a long term project to document James as he grows up. Over James’s first year I photographed him at a few days old, at six months and a few days after his first birthday.

This session was photographed on a wet Sunday afternoon a few days before his second birthday in October 2013. As a toddler he’s become quite easy to photograph. He’s happy to play and pose in front of the camera but I keep the sessions short and fun so he doesn’t get bored quickly.

We’ll continue documenting James’s progress each year until either I’m too old to pick up a camera or until James has had enough of me pointing a camera at him.

Siena's first year

Quite often a new born baby portrait session develops into a documentation of baby’s first year and sometimes into a family portrait session with baby’s siblings and so it was with Siena’s baby portraits. I photographed Siena a few days after she was born, at six months and again shortly before her first birthday. Photographing a new born baby and capturing the bond between parents and the baby is, in my opinion, best done as naturally and as simply as possible. That approach always produces powerful, emotional images which are so striking to look at.

Baby James – A newborn portrait session

I did this newborn baby portrait session with James, and his mum and dad, Nikki and Colin about ten days after he was born in November 2011. The natural light in our conservatory, even in November is perfect for baby portraits and the heated floor works well too. James is really growing up now and is developing into a lovely little chap. You can see other sessions from James first year on my blog here:

Felix – a newborn portrait photo session

Antoney has designed and built my website (and he keeps fixing it when I break something), so when he told me that Helen was pregnant we talked about doing a newborn portrait session. A few days after Felix arrived I went over to their house in Withington to do a shoot with baby Felix, Helen and Antoney. It was a cold, wet day last August so we had to work inside but the black and white photos looked really good. Here’s a selection

A new born session in black and white

I love doing newborn baby shoots and this is one from last year. We didn’t have much room to work and the light from the window wasn’t great but when I edited the photographs they just looked fantastic in black and white. Black and white works so well with newborn babies and these are really cute.

Aren't toddlers cute!

We went over to Kerrie and Dave’s on the Wirral before Christmas to do a children’s portrait session for their ever so cute baby daughter. We wanted to keep things simple so we just used the back garden and patio. It was a very bright sunny Sunday morning but a bit chilly. It was perfect for taking some beautiful, natural portrait photographs. She just toddled around, playing with toys and exploring while we took pictures. Brilliant! Here’s a tiny selection from the day.

Jack's first year

I met Dom and Lauren before Christmas 2010 when Dom asked me to do some portraits of Jack, who was about ten days old at the time. What started out as a quick shoot turned into a year long project and I’ve photographed Jack three times now, and we plan to document him growing up as the years unfold.

He was a very cute but very tiny baby the first time we met and now he’s even cuter. Our last session was just before his first birthday and we made a book of his first year. Here’s a very large selection from his first year. We couldn’t get the list of pics any shorter than this!

Jack’s mum and dad very kindly sent us a written testimonial. I thought about editing it down but I think it’s much better in full. Here it is:

“We first found Andrew through a web search when looking for a photography session to capture the first few weeks of our son’s life, Jack. We contacted many photographers before him and found the others did not understand what we wanted or gave us confidence that they could capture a moment within our lives which would never be repeated. After speaking with Andrew for a short while we knew he was the man for the job, he wasn’t the lowest in price but we knew that he would be worth it and found he was very accommodating to our budget.

“The first time we saw the photo’s of Jack we knew we were in safe hands, then over the year we met with Andrew a few more times to ensure we captured Jack’s first year, we now have an album and a multi image wall frame as a record of that very special year to treasure forever. We know only Andrew could have captured Jacks personality in such a unique and modern way and will ensure we employ Andrews services for key milestone though out our lives. Jack loves Andrew and lights up every time he sees him, something you can not put a price on. Andrew, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you for everything you have done!”
